"Green" real estate developer Casa Verde announces the launch of CasaVerde Energy Auditing Service

CasaVerde partner, Michael Sanders, has completed training and is providing energy auditing analysis services through the federally funded low-income weatherization program as well as audits for homeowners independent of this federal program.

"An energy audit creates a clear picture of what changes a building requires to increase its energy efficiency", said Michael Sanders. "Often, a home owner will feel that it is necessary to undertake expensive retrofits like window replacement to make a difference in their home's efficiency, and is discouraged by the high cost. With a comprehensive home energy audit, we can see exactly where the energy loss is, and often the solution is an easier, less expensive fix, like adding air sealing and insulation in those targeted areas where the audit shows the house was inadequately insulated".

What makes the CasaVerde auditing program unique, is the company's leading role in green development in Indiana, and its long involvement with the U. S. Green Building Council's LEED program. Their successes with the construction of the first LEED Certified residence in Indianapolis, and the largest in the State LEED Certified mixed-use project underway in Columbus, and the first of its kind in the Midwest renovation of the Gramse Building. The Gramse Project combines LEED Certification, pricing for low/moderate income condo buyers and in a building that is a candidate for the National Register of Historic Places.

CasaVerde has on-staff LEED Accredited Professionals and will be training a second auditor next month. This combination of LEED professionals and Certified Energy Auditors adds depth to both company capacity as well as a very high skill set brought to all CasaVerde projects.

Columbus Downtown Green Development Opens Its Doors On Earth Day

On Earth Day, April 22nd from 4:00pm – 7:00pm, the Jackson Place Condominium development in downtown Columbus is opening its doors to the public for a "dusty boots" tour of the project. Representatives from Casa Verde, the developer, along with Sam Miller of Solstice Architecture will be on hand to answer questions, share information about this high-performance green project, and speak about green design. Product suppliers for the various green building materials used in Jackson Place will also be there to explain their products.

Jackson Place, a mixed-use residential/commercial real estate development under construction, is located at 11th and Jackson streets in Columbus. Phase 1 of this project consists of 13 residential and live-work units. The combination of the 10-year tax abatement along with extremely low utility costs of this cutting-edge technology development makes living at Jackson Place a great economic choice.

In addition to the high efficiency energy systems and non-toxic finishes, Jackson Place offers customized floor plans and accessible roof decks extending the living space to open air rooftop garden patios. All of the Jackson Place homes have secure, underground parking and two buildings have elevator service from the underground garage to all floors, to help keep life convenient and easy.

Jackson Place is being built to the comprehensive green building standards of the U. S. Green Building Council's LEED program. This will be the first LEED certified mixed-use project in the City.

February 10, 2009 :: Casa Verde Helping Hoosiers Green Their Homes

Casa Verde is preparing to launch a new business focusing on the greening of Hoosier homes. There is substantial statistical evidence that green buildings are good for the environment. Many forward-thinking homeowners are realizing that greening their homes can be better for their wallets too. Green retrofitted homes offer their owners a number of bottom-line benefits, including reductions in water and energy use and costs.

CasaVerde features inmodern furniture in our Indianapolis office

CasaVerde is delighted to feature the brilliantly designed inmodern furniture in our Indianapolis office. What could be better to show in the first LEED Certified residence than Indianapolis designed and Indiana produced furniture. The inmodern product line marries clean, contemporary design, with extraordinary fabrication standards for tool-less assembly, with FSC certified, formaldehyde free, non-toxic fun finishes. We love this stuff! I am working on a inmodern linear desk as I write this. Check them out online at www.inmodern.net.

December 21, 2008 :: 2129 Park Avenue residence certifies LEED Gold

The CasaVerde residence just north of downtown Indianapolis has completed the final inspection and has achieved enough points to easily get Gold Certified. Some of the highlights that helped make this exraordinarily green is the state-of-the-art mechanical systems, the insulation package and the extensive use of non-toxic materials and FSC certified materials.

The building is available for tours, so you can get a look for yourself how elegant a green home can be. To arrange a tour, contact David Kadlec at 317 408-2271 to get on the calendar. We particularly welcome the opportunity to show the home to groups that have an interest in the emerging green economy, so whether your interest is economic or ecological, come and see how beautifully a LEED Certified building meets both of these measures.

Jackson Place project in Columbus, IN is making great strides

Phase 1 of the Jackson Place development is now under roof and ready for windows and doors to complete dry-in. The exterior masonry work will continue as the project moves into mechanical rough-in.

Everything has proceeded as planned with the relocation of utilities and site work, and the project has continued to garner the enthusiastic support of the City of Columbus, the mayor's office and Department of Planning. The July 15th Groundmaking Ceremony was attended by Mayor Armstrong and other municipal officials, a representative to Senator Lugar’s office, as well as many Columbus real estate agents.

Mayor Armstrong declared that "Jackson Place was just what Columbus was waiting for" and enthusiastically spoke of the importance of LEED Certified development and the contribution that Jackson Place is making to the City of Columbus.

We have 4 of the 13 Phase 1 units presold and are working to locate a grocery store adjacent to the Jackson Place site. The City is working with us to make this much needed amenity a reality.

Mayor Ballard speaks at the "Groundmaking" ceremony of The Gramse Building

On November 6th, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard spoke at the kickoff of the Gramse Building renovation. This unique project brings together key points of the mayor's plan for Indianapolis involving neighborhood revitalization and green job creation, and he made a special effort to fit the event into his calendar.

The Gramse Building renovation is the first project in Indiana, and one of very few in the Nation, to combine Low/Moderate income pricing on a LEED Certified project and do it all following Historic Preservation guidelines. As part of the agreement with the City of Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission, the Gramse will commission and submit an application to be on the National Register of Historic Places.

The project is now underway with roofing and asbestos abatement the first parts of the construction process that will conclude in late spring with affordable, high efficiency housing being offered starting in the 70's.

CasaVerde Partner, David Kadlec gets LEED Accredited

In November, David Kadlec became the latest CasaVerde team member to pass the U. S. Green Building Council LEED exam. When asked why he studied for and took the challenging exam to be LEED AP, David said "I was always struck by the very wholistic look that LEED takes at what makes a building green; that it is way more than energy efficiency. LEED makes it also important that the building be healthy for the occupants and sustainable at the municipal and global levels. We can make a powerful difference in the world with this comprehensive system. I am delighted to be able to apply this to our projects".

As evidence of the CasaVerde's dedication to a highly educated and qualified team, we will be cycling more of the team into the LEED testing as well as having on-staff Certified Energy Auditors to be able to conduct comprehensive building analysis.
